When do we need to be ready with an EDI interface to DMHLAC?

The original deadline for Contract Providers was to begin EDI certification/testing by January 2009, but the schedule has been delayed.

Although the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has delayed the release of its Request for Proposal (RFP) for an Integrated Behavioral Health Information System (IBHIS) until September 2007, LA Contract Providers should continue their efforts to implement an Electronic Health Record System (EHR-S) of their own.

The change in the overall EDI Transition project timeline will provide Contract Providers with additional time for their EDI selection, funding, and implementation activities. The entire process can take as long as 24 months or more for some agencies.

Transitioning to EDI claims and other EDI data interactions can help contract providers improve their billing workflows, reduce double data entry tasks, and provide an internal electronic reporting capability.

The delay of the DMH RFP will result in a change to the current December 2008 EDI Transition deadline for the Contract Providers. A revised IBHIS and EDI Transition timeline will be developed and posted to the Contract Provider Transition Project (CPTP) Website following release of the IBHIS RFP. http://dmh.lacounty.info/hipaa/ContractProvidersTransitionProject.htm

Here is a summary of the last schedule / deadline DMH announced for contract providers:

We don’t know exactly what ‘implementation’ means, could mean Pilot starts or could mean Go-Live.

I suggest you procede as planned originally and have your EDI solution ready to enter certification by December 2008.

  • IBHIS RFP complete – April 2007/TBD
  • IBHIS Vendor Selected – Aug. 2007/TBD

  • EDI IBHIS Certification complete – June 2009
