LACDMH has streamlined the MHSA application process

On average, the times for each approval phase have been reduced by nearly 30-50%, except for Level 1. The Level 1 review time frame is almost entirely dependent on each submission’s accuracy and completeness according to the published guidelines.

LACDMH staff are readily available to the agencies throughout the process to discuss concerns and answer specific questions about their proposed project proposal. In general, the agencies that take greatest advantage of their assistance and guidance are able to move their proposals forward quickest.

Roughly, you should plan for 8-13 weeks to be approved and sign your TNFA, so you may begin the project work you include for reimbursement:
  • 4-6 weeks for Level 1
  • 2-3 weeks for Level 2 , i.e. MHSA application approval
  • 2-4 weeks for TNFA (legal agreement) execution (sometimes less)
  • project work can commence
  • 2 weeks to receive 20% start-up funds, if you requested this; 4 weeks from the date DMH receives a properly completed Start-Up invoice;
(average total from initial MHSA submission to receive first check = 10 - 15 weeks )
